Water leak detection accurately identifies a hidden leak and prevents the expensive task of digging and breaking up an entire property caused by a broken pipe.

There are many different ways to identify leaks in the plumbing system. Burst pipes are common during the winter months, when temperatures drop. When you notice a decrease in water pressure, cracks in the wall, or dampness in the house, it may indicate that you need to check if there is a leak in the plumbing. However, it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint exactly where the leak is located. We therefore utilise several feasible leak identification methods to ensure that we will be able to find and fix any leaks quickly. These include:

* Pressure testing – By using a pressure gauge, we can test whether the water pressure is dropping. If the pressure drops significantly, then we know that there is a leak somewhere in the plumbing. This method of detection is very effective as it does not require us to open up walls or ceilings. It is also possible for us to locate the exact location of the leak by measuring the pressure at multiple points around the property.

* Correlation between flow rates – Water meters measure how much water flows through our homes every second. By comparing these readings with previous ones, we can determine whether there has been an increase or decrease in water consumption. An increase in consumption usually indicates that there is a leak in one of your home’s plumbing systems.

*Acoustics – Acoustic detectors are used to detect sound waves which travel under the ground. They are particularly useful for detecting underground leaks, as they are less likely to be disturbed by noise from outside sources.

*Tracer Gas Testing – Tracer gas testing involves injecting a small amount of tracer gas into the water supply. The tracer gas travels through the plumbing system and gives off a distinctive odor. A trained professional can use this information to help them locate the source of the leak.
